Affordable, healthy food – is it a right or a privilege? Feel free to engage in debate about the particulars on your various social media platforms. Meanwhile I’ll just cut to the chase and say we at the CFMCV’s come down firmly and forever more on the side of “the more the merrier” when it comes to making terrific fruit and veggies from California accessible.
Fresh Food Is A Right For Everyone
As a demonstration of our Certified Farmers’ Markets’ ongoing commitment to linking the people who grow produce to everyone in the desert who wants to eat it, we’re presenting a “Fresh Food For All” event this Sunday, July 29th. Representatives from the Riverside County WIC (Women, Infants and Children) offices will be on hand to distribute their annual $20 Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupon booklets to current WIC participants, and help new families begin the WIC application process. In addition, eligibility technicians from the Riverside County Department of Social Services will also be present to offer dual enrollment in CalFresh/EBT and MediCal, answer questions in real time and process applications.
This is a unique opportunity to meet with knowledgeable team members from both agencies on a weekend, outside of the office setting and without the need for an appointment. We are beyond excited to collaborate in this very tangible way with our community partners from both government agencies. If you weren’t already aware, we have a long history with both CalFresh and WIC. For more than half of the history of our Markets we’ve processed CalFresh EBT for the purchase of food, and in the past few years we also added WIC summer vouchers and Fruit & Veggie Checks to our accepted currencies. The partnerships make perfect sense – we’re all committed to finding ways for everyone our area provide nutritious meals for themselves and their families. The CFMCV’s go above and beyond to offer $10 for $10 matching tokens at each Market location, for both WIC and EBT/CalFresh customers, good towards the purchase of our farm-direct produce.
