WE ♥ U
The CFMCV’s are about to get KIST – and like it! It’s been well established that we love acronyms around here (agriculture is full of them) but even more than that we adore people who take farm-raised produce to the next level. Chefs who make the connection from small CA farms to plates pretty much always make our “best of” list.
Get KIST
Chef Rob Wepplo is one of those folks – since he moved to the CV in 2009 he’s been a dedicated Certified Farmers’ Market shopper, and once we realized he was the cooking type we’ve cajoled him into our Guest Chef tent whenever his busy schedule allowed. After many years laboring behind the scenes as an executive chef inside several of the CV’s busiest and most exclusive restaurant kitchens, he’s turning entrepreneurial and starting his own brand – Cafe KIST (Keeping It Simply Tasty). The idea is, if you base your recipe on locally sourced and recently picked ingredients there’s no need to make it complicated – customers will return time and again. Ingredients like Thomas Farms eggs, JF Organic Farms cauliflower, RS Farms greens, L’Artisan ciabatta bread…getting the picture? We’re betting he’s right about that. Until his commercial kitchen is set up, he’ll set up his home base right here at the Markets. Beginning this Saturday (2/18) in Palm Springs and Wednesday (2/22) in Palm Desert find Chef Rob and his breakfast bowls and sandwiches under the blue Cafe KIST banner. (Don’t worry, La Quinta – he’ll set up his canopy in Old Town beginning in March.)
Be prepared to swoon.
