The Wednesday Certified Farmers’ Market in Palm Desert Is Moving Back to Mornings.
In an effort to make the mid-week Certified Farmers’ Market in Palm Desert more accessible to more residents, and because of the success of last Springs’s evening market, the Palm Springs Cultural Center, which produces the valley’s three Certified Farmers’ Markets, elected to move the Wednesday Certified Farmers’ Market in Palm Desert to evenings. Since that time, both customers and farmers have expressed a desire to see the market move back to mornings. As a result, beginning just in time for Thanksgiving, the Palm Desert Certified Farmers’ Market will return to its 8am to 12:30pm timeframe.
“The evening market, which was well received last Spring, just did not translate into something that worked in the Fall,” said Paul Palodichuk, CFM General Manager. “We received a tremendous number of requests to have the market return to mornings, and so that’s what we’re doing. Our customers, our farmers, and our added value vendors all agree that mornings are better. So although we are still committed to finding ways to increase access to the market for people who unable to shop on Wednesday mornings, our first responsibility is to serve our existing customers.”
The morning market will return on Wednesday, November 25th (the day before Thanksgiving). “We realize that’s fast,” Palodichuk continued. “But we felt it was important for our customers to be able to do their Thanksgiving shopping at the market, and most people want to have their shopping done by Wednesday evening.”
The mid-week Certified Farmers’ Market in Palm Desert is located next to the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce at 72–559 Highway 111.
The Certified Farmers’ Markets are the Coachella Valley’s only State and County Certified Farmers’ Markets. “Certified” means all the produce from participating farms at the markets has been grown at California farms which have been registered and inspected by their county Agriculture Departments. In addition, almost all the CFMCV farms are located within a 100 mile radius of the Markets (thus reducing the carbon footprint), and many products sold are USDA Certified Organic.
The Certified Farmers Markets are produced by the Palm Springs Cultural Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which was established to encourage the development of the cultural arts in the Coachella Valley with a specific focus in the areas of film, fine art, live performance, dance, music, and community festivals. The Center is dedicated to advancing education, to nurturing community-wide participation in the cultural arts, and to sponsoring scholarship awards for deserving individuals.
